Anthony: Your mention of Easling's Farm at Longview Prarie could be helpful in establishing a more exact location of just where the Longview Skirmish occurred and possibly the location of the pontoon bridge that was destroyed. Locations at Longview are very elusive since the general area extends along about a two mile stretch of the Saline River reaching out into Ashley, Bradley and Drew Counties on each side of the river. The Praraie land that I am familiar with is located up the river from Longview more than a mile and is in Ashley and Drew County. Or were the 35 wagons on the Bradley County side? Do you have a location for Easling's Farm? I am glad to see, at last, some mention of a specific location for this skirmish.

I live at Longview about half of the year and have spent a lot of time pursuing the answers to a lot of questions about this. Longview was the first settlement in Ashley County and the town itself was gone by the turn of the century. However the Longview Ferry continued to operate for many years and was replaced by a bridge in the late 1950's. Thanks, Leroy
