The 24th Arkansas Infantry was primarily a concript (draft) regiment ubder the Conscript Act of 1862. It was made of men basically from south Arkansas.

Company "A" was made up of men from Sevier County who had originally joined with Dawson's 19th Arkansas Infantry and were reorganized in August 1862 into the 24th Arkansas at Camp White Sulphur Springs near Pine Bluff.

Pvt. A. J. Potts, Company "A" 24th Arkansas was discharged (for unknown reason) at Camp White Sulphur Springs. There is little other identifing information given.

The 24th Arkansas Infantry (in Arkansas) was disbanded Feb. 1863 when the remaining members, which was not captured in the Battle of Arkansas Post, were reformed into Hardy's Regiment of Arkansas Infantry along with those of the Dawson's 19th Arkansas and Crawford's Battalion.
