The William H. Hicks buried in Little Rock National Cemetery is William Henry Hicks, Co. D, 47th Arkansas Infantry (Mounted). He died in 1906, and his widow Mary O. Hicks applied for a Confederate pension from Pulaski County in 1911.

Since your William H. Hicks doesn't appear on the records of any Arkansas regiments after his exchange at City Point, Virginia, in 1863, you might want to take a look at some Missouri regiments. During 1863-64, the 27th Arkansas seems to have just about disintegrated. Lots of men from this regiment scattered to the four winds. Some of them joined various Arkansas cavalry regiments and battalions, many joined the Union army, and a lot of them joined up with Missouri Confederate regiments. You should particularly look in Freeman's, Fristoe's, Coffee's and Jackman's Missouri cavalry regiments, and in Schnabel's Missouri cavalry battalion. Also, a long shot, Kitchen's 7th Missouri Cavalry. All of these outfits had a large number of Arkansas boys in the ranks.
