Doyle, the database of Arkansas Confederate soldiers I've put together has two parts. The first, which includes by far the most Arkansas soldiers, includes those names that I've identified beyond a doubt, through military and non-military sources. The second includes names that I cannot verify--things like cemetery markers, pension applications, postwar accounts, family records, and other sources that I can't tie to a specific Compiled Service Record. In most cases I have a good idea of who these men were and what regiment they served in, but I can't prove it.

So, for what it's worth, like you I also list Benton Musgraves as a probable member of Co. D, 19th (Dawson's) Arkansas Infantry and have him in the unverified part of my database. I feel reasonably confident about that, but it's based on circumstantial evidence and detective work, so I can't move him over to the verified section until we can find a document we can hang our hat on.

It's taken more than 20 years, but I've been able to move most of my unverified's over. We just need to keep on plugging away. We at least owe those old soldiers that.
