Coincidentally, the July 17th 1864 letter of resignation by Gray was, according to notation by Colonel T Harrison, his second letter, further more, this is same date of entry in wife Virginia's 1983, AHQ published diary that she had drawn a sketch of the Dallas County Court House for Dr Henry Montgomery Dye to send to Richmond for the records (possibly(?) AHC's #3249), used as a hospital, and their Presbyterian church for Federal wounded following Jenkins Ferry battle.
