Chuck, speaking of the Desha County/Kentucky connection, I wonder if it's just coincidence that the "Blackburn Guards", Co. H, 3rd Arkansas Infantry, organized at Tyro, was about 50 percent Desha County men and 50 percent Kentuckians. The supposition has always been that the two groups happened to run into one another at Nashville when the 3rd Arkansas was heading to Virginia. But I wonder if perhaps the joint venture was prearranged by virtue of the familial ties between many of the Desha County men and the Kentuckians? Maybe someday I'll get time to explore that possibility.
