Doyle, always thought that Garland got a raw deal all the way around. First he was going to Virginia and the ANV. Instead, he gets stuck at Fort Hindman in Arkansas. Then after the fall of the garrison, he gets hung out to dry as the fall guy for the surrender. Seems to me like maybe he was born under the sign of the goat's rearend. And it was not like the Confederates had an over abundance of professonally trained officers.
