George Cook of NW Ark.deserted the 27th Ark. and enlisted in the 1st Ark. cav. Us.Family stories say he was given a choice of enlist or else.A report by the 1st Ark. states"On the 20th of June a raid was made in to Fayetteville, Arkansas, from Cassville, by a detachment of the 1st Missouri and 2nd Wisconsin cavalry, under command of Major Hubbard, at which time 115 recruits were brought out, mostly from Washington County."Were these recruits volunteers or conscripts?
