Re: 14th KS Cav at Ft Smith, Feb 1864

Thanks Dale. I didn't find anything in the New Era.

Can anyone suggest where I might find the monthly returns or day book for the 14th KS Cav?

This unit may have moved from Ft Smith to North Fork Town, Muscogee/Creek Nation, Indian Territory, (near present Eufaula, OK) without encountering any resistance. My hypothesis is that this regiment scouted down the Texas Road (roughly US Hwy 69)in Feb. 1864 and encountered some resistance before falling back and being recalled to Ft Smith. Further that whatever this encounter was, the family lore of this event has been confused with the battle of Middle Boggy (Feb 13th and reported by Col. W.A. Phillips in the ORs) resulting in a very convoluted and non-supportable story that continues to be repeated in print and on the internet.
