I am guessing you typed "Joseph Anderson Collins" rather than "Joseph Abner" by mistake because of the "Col. Anderson" connection?

I never heard Joseph was captured, but they must have released him because he lived until 1925 and died at Ft. Smith.

I'll check the Nat'l Archives. I had checked on Ancestry.com, but there were two different J.A. Collinses listed from Arkansas, neither of which matches what you've found. I think your info is more accurate.

I appreciate the help.
