The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: F. M. Cochran - 2nd Ark Cav Bttn CS

Thanks Bryan!

Boy, you save me a lot of time searching for anything related to Civil War Arkansas.

Now you've got me on the right track. I've found a requisition for forage by Thomas M. Cochran from March 1864, the month after the Meridian Campaign which is for a "detached company" of the 2nd Arkansas Cavalry. Would you think this is Company "C" and would it be composed of Louisianans, rather than, Arkansans? I wonder if Art Bergeron, might be able to help with this?

As you're probably aware, a great deal of reorganization, consolidation and dissolution of units occurred in N. B. Forrest's command in early February 1864, just prior to the Meridian Campaign. I'm trying to determine the "legal" or recognized composition of Forrest's and Sooy Smith's commands during the campaign.

Jim
