Doyle, my thinking on why his CSR did not mention this soldier’s fate at Jenkins’ Ferry is because of the paper shortage. As you know, the last record for this regiment was a muster in February 1864. Note that earlier in the war, all casualties, woundings, death by illness, etc. religiously appeared in the records. I think one can safely assume that the paper shortage might have been the culprit.

I jumped into my files this morning and found that M.M.J. Cherry was the wife of Private Bayless E. Cherry, Company A, 26th Arkansas, brother of William. Their marriage is recorded in the Drew County Marriage Book B, page 268, ceremony performed by T.C. Hunnicut, Justice of the Peace. They married on 20 DEC 1860. M.M.J.’s maiden name was Margaret Melissa J. Bibb.
