I have transcribed seven regiments of Missouri Cavalry CSA to include Shelby's brigade from the CSR's. During that process I discovered many errors in names, locations of where enlisted, killed, died etc., I compared the information with the Trans-Miss order book as well as documents from both Shelby and Marmaduke's order books. I quickly discovered that the entire CSR process for the Missouri units were riff with errors. In point of fact there were names listed in the record of losses that were not even mentioned in the CSR's, or if they were there were differences in spellings. Best Judgement, as Mr. Howerton mentioned, is how it is done. The Shelby brigade rosters are done, which includes additional names that are not mentioned in the CSR's but are referenced to other documens.
