Terry, as you have no doubt discovered in your research, the CSR of all the troops of the Trans-Mississippi Department are woefully inadequate -- with Missouri probably being the worst. The copyists had relatively little to work with. They had virtually no muster rolls to work from dating after February 1864, nor did they have much in the way of casualty lists, hospital registers, etc. The primary reason, of course, is that Federal control of the Mississippi River made it difficult for the TMD to send reports back to Richmond. There are some modern-day researchers who have access to more TMD records than the War Department copyists had.

For that reason, the work that researchers like you are doing is critically important.
