The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Jesse Boen, Co. H-10th Ark CSA

Bryan, thanks so much! The Boens are very confusing. There are two Jesse Boens, born about 10 years apart, both married to girls named Polly and both with children named William, George Washington, and Nancy. Thanks to your input, I now believe that the Jesse of Johnson County, H-10th Ark, who died in 1862 as discussed, is the younger Jesse. This is very likely the Jesse found on the 1850 Johnson County census with Wm Bowen and wife Narcissa. The older Jesse (wife Polly Cooper) also disappears by 1870. He is of Newton County (1850), then Pope County ARK in 1860. He is age 30 in 1860, certainly of age to be involved in the War, but I can find nothing.

To further confuse things, the Polly Cooper who is wife of the older Jesse Boen seems to end up living near the family of Jesse the younger (H-10th ARK) who died in the War in 1862! It will likely take some serious work to straighten this out. Online databases have these families VERY screwed up, and it doesn't surprise me.

So thanks for your help! And if you run across anything re: a Jesse A. (prob Anderson) Boen/Bowen of Newton County or Pope County, Arkansas, I hope you will let me know. He married Polly Cooper (dau of William Huston Cooper and Barthenia Holbrook) in Newton County ARK in c1848. This Jesse was born in TN about 1829.

Best Regards,

Cynthia
