BTW, another error is the statement that when he was captured he was sent to Richmond, Virginia. U.S. troops captured in the Trans-Mississippi Department were sent to Camp Ford, near Tyler, Texas, unless they were paroled in the field as John D. Cain was. The form on which the POW information was extracted has Richmond, Virginia, pre-printed on it (the form was one used by the Army of Potomac), but no date was entered. The guy who put together the webpage misinterpreted the form. By October 1863, when John D. Cain was captured and paroled, the Federals controlled the entire length of the Mississippi River, and the Confederates had trouble sneaking couriers across, much less trying to herd groups of POWs across.
Thanks again.
