I believe there is a book on civil war railroads, that has a picture of a locomotive that was brought up from (?? New Orleans??) to run on the L. R. & Memphis Railroad during the war. The locomotive had a name, in which I can't remember. There are period pictures of rail cars sitting on tracks at DeValls Bluff. In the Arkansas And The Civil War book written by John Ferguson, there is a picture that is listed as ( union boats and supplies at Des Arc, 1863). The picture was made at DeValls Bluff for there are boxcars in the deep background, and there were no trains or tracks at Des Arc. I have seen pictures of this image where you can see the boxcars more clearly than what's in the book. There are more than one picture, but they seem to be taken near the same view point. I'm going from memory here, I found or read somewhere that some Texas troops stop a train west of Brownville Station and caught a ride to DeValls Bluff sometime in 1862. Again memory here some details may be wrong. I do know this twenty plus years ago a friend and I found a L.R. & Memphis brass switch lock, it had been cut loose from a switch there at Brownville Station, so there had to be a siding at Brownville Station. L.R.& Memphis R.R. was stamped or cast into the brass latch of the lock. You know that sometime the railroad was called the Memphis & L.R. Railroad. I believe there are other accounts of trains running between DeValls Bluff and Huntersville/Argenta (NLR) during the war, but no more memory for now. I'm sure others will post them.
