Pam, all of the infantry regiments in the District of Arkansas were sent to camps around Marshall, Texas, in the winter and spring of 1865, due primarily to difficulty in foraging sufficient food for several thousand men in southern Arkansas, but also because there were no major offensives planned in the immediate future. Those regiments were included in the general surrender of the Trans-Mississippi Department, but very few of them stuck around to be paroled. Most simply disbanded and sent the boys home, although a few companies went home as intact units. Off the top of my head, I recall that Co. G, 35th Arkansas Infantry, marched home as a unit and formally stacked arms while standing in formation in front of the courthouse at Van Buren, where they had been sworn into service some three years earlier.
