John Keeton - Company I, 4th Arkansas Inf

Service records for John Keeton (Company I, 4th AR Inf) show him absent sick at hospital beginning with the Feb-June 1862 roll. This continues until the Dec 1862-Feb 1863 adds the note that the hospital is in Mississippi. Roll ending 30 Apr 1863 still shows him sick, while the next one (30 Apr - 30 June 1863) he is dead.

Doubting that he was in one hospital for this one-year period, what was the procedure for soldiers too sick to travel? Leave them where they were and then add a note on the roll if/when they heard news of them?

That, to me, sounds like the case but I wondered if y'all had any other ideas. Ideally, I'd find his resting place but having a general location in the state would help. I suspect he's in northeast Mississippi, Corinth perhaps, but understand that, at the time of his death, his unit was part of Johnston's "relief" for Vicksburg that sat in Jackson for a while.
