Thanks, George, for the detective work--certainly sounds reasonable and I never would have thought to compare the pay periods with others in the regiment to estimate hospitalization. Jefferson Keeton was his brother and my ancestor. I had always seen the Apr-June 1863 period roll card and just assumed that he was hospitalized and died in the Jackson area while the 4th was there. Sometimes an additional set of eyes comes in handy, I appreciate it.
