Doyle, you never cease to amaze me.

Here is the disappointing news. I located the gunsmith, W.J. Chearnley, only to discover he was not in residence in Pine Bluff until 1869-1870. He appears in the 1870 Census for Pine Bluff with wife Victoria and two daughters, ages 3 and 1, both born in Kentucky. Private Malone most probably purchased the weapon as a hunting rifle around 1870. Knowing your interest in Pine Bluff history, I will be emailing the pictures in a few moments.
