Although Morgan’s Battalion went into Fort Hindman poorly armed, efforts were under way to get armament to the unit as soon as possible. This is evidenced by a requisition submitted by Captain Hamiter of Company G on 28 Jun ’62 (possibly while en route to be absorbed into the battalion) in which he requested 117 muskets, 117 cartridge boxes, etc., etc., all of which were approved by Hindman. This was from the Little Rock Arsenal, so a lot of weaponry had to have been gathered in an amazingly short period of time. No telling what type of weaponry they got, or in what condition. I don’t think the 26th got the Richmonds until just before Prairie Grove. Van Dorn sure did a number.
