I have a newspaper item from the Anderson (SC) Intelligencer from May 2, 1861. They cite the Memphis Avalanche as follows:

"We received the following dispatch on Saturday night from Pine Bluff, signed by one of the most prominent citizens of the state. Splendid regiment at muster here today. The secession flag waves over the regiment. Col. M. Gregory, commander."

I cannot find a Colonel M. Gregory for any Arkansas regiment. Any help here would be appreciated.
