George T. Maddox's new book, "Hard Trials and Tribulations of an Old
Confederate Soldier" , is now ready for delivery. This work contains
scenes and incidents of the late war that came uner the author's personal
observation, together with many thrilling adventures and encounters that
befell him and his command during the four years' struggle. The book
contains much heretofore unwritten history and gives an insight into the terrible
hardships and suffering endured by the Southern women as well as soldiers.
The scenes are laid mostly in northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri,
including Joe Shelby's celebrated raid from Arkadelphia, Ark., to
Booneville, Mo. It is written in a vigorous style, is intensely interesting from
beginning to end, and the author, who resides at Van Buren, vouches for the
truth of every statement therein made.
