Brian Robertson, of the Butler Center, edited a splendid little book, "Things Grew Beautifully Worse: The Wartime Experiences of Captain John O'Brien, 30th Arkansas Infantry, C.S.A." It's a postwar memoir of his service in Co. F, 30th/25th Arkansas. It deals both with his experience in the field and his experience as a prisoner of war. I found it particularly interesting, because Company F was an outfit I coincidentally had done extensive research on. It's only 68 pages long, but it covers a lot of ground, including an annotated roster of the company. One of the things I like about anything Brian edits is that he doesn't clutter up the narrative with an overuse of [sic]. I am sick of [sic].

If you get a chance to read it, I think you'll greatly enjoy it.
