Here's an article about C P Head which you may have seen. He's actually on the Arizona census for 1870 as a merchant in Tucson.

Now that it's certain that he survived the war, do you know whether C P Head left Confederate service in December 1862? Last record in his Misc file shows pay to Dec 10, 1862 as battalion commander. Capt A T Hawkins was promoted Major and assigned to battalion command just before the Battle of Murfreesboro.
