I didn’t find any relationship between John and Rueben. John was from Virginia, and Rueben was from Alabama. Rueben was in neighboring Grant County on 01 Feb 1861, as evidenced by his acquisition of a land patent in that county. In my present research project, I have found that approximately 20 percent of over 1200 soldiers were not in the 1860 census, including my own great grandfather. Looks like John and Rueben missed enumeration, as well. Good luck in your search.
