IV. Col. Jno A. Dunnington, Chief of Ordnance, will turn over to Lieut. J. C. Shoup the eight (8) mountain Howitzer, now at the arsenal with full equipment, ammunition and Etc. etc. Lieut. Shoup will at once proceed with the battery to Fort Smith Arks. And there await further orders.

VII. Lt. J. C. Shoup will at once proceed to Fort Smith and there have made such alterations and repairs of the Mountain Battery, as may be necessary.

II. Colonel Charles A. Carroll is relieved of the command of Carroll’s brigade of Shoup’s Division, and is assigned to the command of the brigade composed of Carroll’s regiment of Arkansas Cavalry and Fagan’s regiment of Arkansas Cavalry and Shoups Arkansas light battery.
III. Colonel Carroll with his regiment and Shoups battery will move to Huntsville and take position there, picketing the roads in his front and on his left, not guarded by Genl. Marmaduke. Fagan’s regiment of Cavalry, Col. Carroll’s brigade, will remain as at present with Brig. Genl. Parson’s until further orders.

III. Col. Carroll with his regiment of Cavalry and Shoups mountain battery will retire upon the Huntsville and Ozark road to the late camp (Camp War Eagle) of Shoups Division and there report to Brig. Genl. Marmaduke awaiting him at that point if he shall not have reached there. He will if pressed by the enemy, hold War Eagle Mountain until Brig. Genl. Marmaduke reaches Camp War Eagle, and he will communicate with him as to his own and the enemy’s movements.

I'm not sure what the 25 pound mountain howitzer is. He had 12-lb mountain howitzers and up to four 2.25" Confederate mountain rifles. Only about 24 of them were made by Tredegar (sp?) Iron Works in Virginia and four of them found their way to Arkansas. Shoup had them at Cane Hill but the carriages were rather shoddy and didn't survive the battle and rough roads and had to be sent away for repair. The guns were returned on December 2, just in time for Prairie Grove.
