My gut instinct tells me this is the wrong "Batt Jones" and that the person who posted the photo incorrectly denoted him as being from the 8th Arkansas. Other photos clearly show the death date as December 1862, but correspondence at the National Archives indicates Jones was captured in 1863 at Port Hudson and sent to prison camp.
