The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Arkansas Confederates, The Infantry Units

I have spent much of the summer so far editing and updating the book Arkansas Confederates, The Infantry Units, which is available through the Wikipedia Foundation. The book is a collection of articles on the various Arkansas Confederate Infantry Units listed in the Wikipedia English Encyclopedia. The book relies heavily on discussion and content from the Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board. The Wikimedia Foundation receives 10% of the gross total for each book sold.
The book in black and white, soft cover, costs approximately $28.00. You can also order color and hard back editions at additional costs.

The purpose of printing this incomplete and unedited version of a history of the Arkansas Confederate Infantry units is to call the attention of historians, researchers and authors to the need for such a work. James McGhee’s excellent Guide to Missouri Confederate Units was the inspiration for this work. Imagine if you will what could be accomplished if we combined the knowledge, skills, and talents of the regular contributors to the Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board to produce a work that would truly be a fitting honor for Arkansas Civil War Veterans. Imagine if you will a second volume devoted to the Artillery and Cavalry units and a third volume dedicated to the Union units raised in Arkansas. There would seem to be few projects as worthy of effort during the Sesquicentennial than finally publishing the sentinel history of Arkansas’s Civil War units.

Many of the regular contributors to the Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board have assisted with the preparation of this work, Bryan Howerton and Danny Odom being chief among these. The unselfish manner in which these men, and many others, regularly step forward to share their knowledge with fellow researchers is in the finest tradition of southern hospitality and is a fitting honor to the Arkansas’s veterans of the Civil War.

If you see content that you think needs to be updated, corrected or expanded, please feel free to edit the article in question, using appropriate references, or leave feed back or suggestions for improvements to the unit’s histories on this board for discussion. The great thing about Wikipedia is that the book can be continuously improved, based on your input! What better way to celebrate the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War than by helping to publish a lasting tribute to the men who fought it.
