Re: Arkansas Confederates, The Infantry Units

Okay here is the full information taken from E. L. McMurtrey's CSR....In regards to the 2nd Ark Cav "This Regiment also known as the 4th Regiment Ark Cav) was formed by the consolidation of the 2d (Barnett's) Battallion Ark Cav and the 6th Battalion Ark Cav by S.O. No 60 Corinth, MS dated May 15, 1862. The 6th Battalion Ark Cav was also known as 1st Battalion Ark Cav, Phifer's Battalion Ark Cav, White's BN Ark Cav and McNeil's BN Ark Cav.

About December 1864 the 2nd Regiment Ark Cav was reduced to a Battalion and designated 18th (McMurtrey's) BN Ark Cav. This info you already have...

Now here is my question...before this Dec 1864 date, McMurtrey was leading a battalion under Crawford's Brigade etc, and participated in numerous battles as early as Dec 1863... We know Slemmon commanded a brigade during the Missouri raid and 2nd Ark Cav was under LTC T. W. Jackman, but where does this leave McMurtrey and the 2nd? He is listed with Crawford in most all the battles in Ark previously...Princeton, Mt Elba, Poison Springs, Marks Mills. Where was the 2nd Ark Cav during this same time frame Dec 63-Oct 64... and I cant find McMurtrey anywhere in Ark while the troops on the raid were gone. Its kind of muddy!
