Re: Question: Arkansas men returning

Asa A. Morgan was Captain, Company A, 1st Arkansas Infantry, which company was raised in Eldora, Arkansas from his own purse. His record indicates that he was "dropped," being replaced by Sergeant James L. Newton who was appointed Captain, April 1, 1862. Newton was mortally wounded at Shiloh April 6, 1862 and died June 23. Morgan, at Shiloh, was noted as a Staff Officer under General Johnston at Shiloh. Subsequently Colonel Enlisted as a Colonel 26th Arkansas Infantry
