Age 35. Enl 26 Apr 1861 at Benton, AR. Mustered into CSA service 19 May 1861 at Lynchburg, VA. Appointed Cpt 8 May 1861. Wounded severely in leg 9 a.m. left center 6 Apr 1862 at Shiloh, TN. Resigned 21 Jul 1862 and appointed LTC 21 Jul 1862.

On March 17, at Corinth, the 1st Arkansas was reorganized and new officers were elected for one year (appendix 2).
