I thought Lucas also stated he shot him, but as his family was all there in Benton and the incident as recorded by Saline County was he was shot as he was fleeing. I think Lucas embellished somewhat as any young soldier might do, but its only his word. According to early Benton accounts he was shot down in the street on River Street right in front of Ringgold Elementary School. I think someone, perhaps you contacted me a while back about a marker, or picture of Lucas and his MOH... But we here in Benton, weren't too interested in honoring the man who killed him. There is no mention of a body guard, patrol etc as there would have been some form of skirmish. Union troops came to Benton often, charged in and around town trying to cut off any Confeds who were home visiting. They captured a few here and there. Whenever any unit was in town it usually resulted in a small skirmish as they withdrew across the Saline.

Holt was a militia officer, Brig Gen, helped raise the 11th ARk Inf, I believe he became a medical officer with CS rank of Major until being made the Adjutant General of Ark Militia with rank of BG. A relative has an envelope that says buttons off coat of Gen Holt, but alas it is empty. No photo exists or even a for sure location of where he is buried by the family, probably Lee Cemetery but not sure.

I didn't have your email but that is about the only info I have in addition to what Mr. Allardice sent you regarding his early years in TN.
