There was a Sgt. J.W. Wilkinson in the 2nd Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (Adair's). Co. E. His Confederate service records says "taken off by the Feds Jan 1 63, Since have learned he joined them". There are two others of the same company captured at or about the same time: John May -- "taken prisoner Jan 63 Benton Co AR" and Cpl. Jarad Solomon -- "taken prisoner Jan 12 63, have heard he was killed by them".

I should point out that the 2nd Cherokee Mtd Vols was not organized until Feb 1863. Wilkinson's enlistment date is shown as July 1862 at Frozen Rock, Cherokee Nation (east side of present Muskogee OK) so he was presumably in one of the "extra companies" of Watie's 1st Cherokee Mtd Vols for a few months before Adair's regiment was organized.

Can anyone identify these men? I would assume they were from northwest Arkansas or southwest Missouri.
