Re: What was the last Arkansas Unit to Surrender?

I guess if you look at it technically it would have been the Arkansas units surrendered by Kirby Smith on May 26 and then officially by him on June 2nd. Of course you had some that never surrendered. I know Monroe took his cavalry and started out with Shelby for Mexico but they turned back. There wasn't any kind of paroling event as happened at Appomattox or Bennet's House NC for Lee or Johnston's troops. Most of the Trans Miss troops were scattered at various areas in SW Ark, NE Texas and NW LA and many were furloughed just prior to the surrender to go home and report to surrender to authorities near their homes. I know Fagan and Crawford furloughed most of theirs while they remained and awaited the official surrender. Crawford mentions this in a letter to his wife. So I guess in the end, they were all officially surrendered on paper May 26 and June 2 but few received any kind of parole or paper from US authorities and many just went home.
