The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Bee Branch and the Civl War Trail

Springfield was quite a town and a major road hub during the war. I believe it was Leander Stillwell, Ill Inf US that said, it was the prettiest town he had seen in Arkansas, with all the big trees lining the road. The 10th Ill Cav. US took over a still just east of town and ran it for a while. It got out of hand and the Federal Army came in and had to take it away from and discipline that Cavalry bunch.
I knew of the Choctaw/Clinton Road and Bee Branch got a Post Office in 1860. So there has to be something to listing Hwy 92 as a Civil War Trail. The old Little Rock to Clinton Road, known as Clinton Road ran about 5 miles east of Bee Branch. So it might have been an east/west crossroads between those two northern running main roads.
I would still like to know the importance of Hwy 92 between Bee Branch and Center Ridge as a civil war trail.
