Re: 30th Arkansas Infantry, Co. E

Unfortunately both Bryan and Tom were mistaken on the 30th's Assignment to Tappan's Brigade.

Tappan's Brigade was not at Helena. General Tappan was ordered to move his brigade to Louisiana to support General Taylor's operations against General's Grant's forces laying siege to Vicksburg Mississippi.[9] They spent the month of July 1863 in the vicinity of Delhi, Louisiana where they conducted raids on Federal interests between Delhi and the Mississippi River.[10] Tappan's brigade was ordered to return to Arkansas, via Pine Bluff, in August 1863.[11] The Tappan's Brigade missed the Battle of Helena on July 4, 1863, because of its operations in Louisiana.[10]

The 30th Arkansas fought in the Battle of Helena as part of McRea's Brigade. The 30th Arkansas suffered a total of 8 killed, 46 wounded and 39 missing casualties at Helena. The regiment's Colonel R.A. Hart, along with his Major and Adjutant were all mortally wounded in the engagement. Lieutenant Colonel J.W. Rogan assumed command when Colonel Hart was wounded. Colonel Rogan would remain in command for the rest of the war.

The regiment was consolidated with the 32nd Arkansas following the Litttle Rock Campaign.

After the Camden Expedition, part of the regiment under Colonel Rogan was reorganized and mounted,[19] and moved with General Sterling Price on his raid on Missouri. During Price's Raid the unit was referred to a Rogan's Arkansas Cavalry and was assigned to Fagan's division of Arkansas Troops
