Of interesting is the fact that Col. Deshler submitted his 7 page after action report while in captivity at Champ Chase. Suprisinly, the Yanks would have allowed him, his regimental commanders and Adjutants to retain their records!

UNITED STATES MILITARY PRISON, Camp Chase, Ohio, March 25, 1863.
