A friend here in Bolivia has a Spencer repeating carbine. The overall length is 37 in., not the 39-1/2 in. that we've found online. The serial number is 103237, but the 7 looks like it may have been added later. Perhaps this was done when it was exported?
Were any of the Spencer carbines not rimfires? This one doesn't have a hammer, although it appears to have a mount for one.
The carbine is marked:
SPENCER REPEATING
RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS
PAT'D MARCH 6, 1860
Behind the ladder sight it is marked M 1865 (can't really read the last digit well).
Can anyone tell us about this piece? Email responses greatly appreciated.
