My GGGrandfather was an officer in the Union army 36IL.Inf.and one of the things he brougt back was a D-handled knife or sword that I am assuming was not Federal issue as I have only seen mentioned in confederate reference. I have tried to research as there are no markings on the knife. He did see service in Ark. at Pea Ridge spent time in Rolla,MO. from Sept. of 1861 as well.I have pictures but, site says too big and I am not that computer literate as to how to shrink the file. It is approx 25inches long.Bigger then a Bowie knife.I read somewhere these knives were made from wagon springs by local blacksmiths. Can anyone steer in the right direction?
