Jerry; Could you add some more details on your G-Grandfather Peyton G. Whaley and the shop of James Black in Washington, Arkansas? I am gathering material for part of my series of books on the settling of the Ozarks, including the Civil War. Blessed Are The Peacemakers is currently in print, with my book on the Sultana to follow. I need any details on the shop while Black was in operation, and especially any details about Peyton G. Whaley and others involved in the operation. I know that he was blinded by an attack by his partner and father-in-law.I have also read that the blinding was finished by a quack doctor. I believe he spent his declining years living with a doctor and his family. I believe that the story was that he was going to pass his tempering process on to one of the doctor's sons, but then when the time came, he had forgotten it.
