Found a campfire once that had the .54 austrian bullets along with .54 gardner bullets melted together. I have a picture but can't figure how to post on the forum. I would suspect that the .54 minie and gardner type bullets worked just fine in the Lorenz. It does bring up the question of the better performance of a hollow based bullet against the solid base Austrian.

Another fact to consider is the type sights being used on the Lorenz. At 400 yards, if the Lorenz had the flip up long range sight and not the block sight they may do better against the Enfield. Further than 400 yards the Enfield would win hands down especially using the English ammunition. I don't know about the Western army but in the ANV there was plenty of English ammunition being used in late war, especially in the Sharpshooter brigades who were equipped with Enfields.
