Ahhh...Keith, you'll do fine as a grunt! You and Alan haven't mentioned something I heard about in High School; After 1863, horseflesh became extremely scarce in the South, and the quality of forage was poor, while the North had a wider supply to draw from, and could feed their horses grain. There are stories of Confederate soldiers sifting through horse apples for undigested corn to add to their meager supplies. Trained, Confident troopers on good mounts could best hungry men and worn out horses, no matter the tactics and weapons. Stan
