In Response To: Re: 1860 Staff & Field Sword ()

Hello, I just inherited (father passed away at 94)what looks like the 1860 staff & field officers sword with the Pettibone Mfg. mark. Everything looks authentic to the pictures I have seen on internet sites, however, there is one site that lists all US contractors of sword mfg. and Pettibone is not one of them.

The sword was found by my father and his twin brother in their back yard in Atlanta when they were small boys around 1915-1920, under several inches of silt. They also found railroad spikes at same site. My grandparents house was well within the general and exact area of numerous battles in the Atlanta campaign. The belief has been that this is an authentic Union officers parade sword. But from reading your messages, it appears that it could be a reunion sword? Have you learned anything more since last year?

Thanks, and please reply with any information you can provide.
