The full name of the source I mentioned is "Regimental colors in the war of the revolution", by Gherardi Davis (1907). It also has 2 supplements that were released a year or two afterward. There are only 125 copies that were printed, and most are in places like the libraries at the Smithsonian now. These are very good works (for when they were written), and are used as major sources by Richardson in his book. You can view the main (1st) volume online at:

For the supplements I had to write to libraries to have them copied from microfilm. Very interesting, and good images taken over 100 years ago of the flags listed. I know where one copy of the original 125 can be purchased for around $300 or so, but $7 for microfilm copies was better for my budget.
