Shawn and Alan,

The 5th Iowa Cavalry (which included Brackett's Battalion, three Minnesota companies, until late 1863) fought in the Clarksville, TN are where I live today. They operated our of the Ft. Henry-Dover, TN region as a base. Col. William Lowe, a former officer of the 2nd US Cavalry before the war, was their colonel until promoted.

According to the book Brackett's Battalion: Minnesota Cavalry in the Civil War and Dakotas Wars by Kurt Bergmann, he devotes a section on this battle (pages 34-38). At the time the regiment was divided into three maneuver battalions of which only one was involved at Lockridge Mill. Major Boernstein's battalion only had 130 men with it. 60 of them men escaped.

I do not know of them losing colors.
