Thanks for your reply to the posting I am sorry I can not be of much help because the letter is privately owned by a person whom I do not have permission to name or cite, but the brief statement in the letter which caught my attention is:

"On Dec. 20 (1863) the regiment was handed the new flag by the Colonel (Likens)"

There is no desription of the flag what-so-ever anywhere in the letter, but I noticed the word "new" was used and no reason was given nor mention of an old flag. Was any other Texas regiment given a flag at about the same time? If yes, what did it look like? As you can imagine a statement like this has invoked curiousity and is a real gem. I just wish some words about the design and/or colors of the flag had been included!
