Well worth the two cents, Frederick.
I'm suspicious of poles that seem to have been used for display purposes purposes after capture/acquisition, so appreciate your impressions in that regard. There are some photos of displays, exhibits (for one example, the 1876 celebration) and there are descriptions of the "trophy" exhibits in Washington and Richmond War Depts and elsewhere, keeping us on guard concerning care and handling of flags after capture (whether poles were included or added after receipt, whether poles were painted before/after, whether nailed to the wall ... that sort of thing). I'm hunting for contemporary, wartime staffs/poles used for army signal flags -- by either side -- to learn dimensions and construction, and the data I posted came from inquiry that didn't answer my questions, but I thought might be useful to others.
