Re: Flag of 57th GA Infantry smuggled from Vicksbu

The AOT type flag of the 57th Georgia at the MOC was a spring of
1864 issue and could not have been the flag saved at Vicksburg.
According to the Thomasville (Ga) Times of Sept. 23, 1876 the flag
saved at Vicksburg was in possession of the John B. Gordon Chapter
of the UDC. It was the second flag of the Regiment and after its
recovery at Vicksburg was never used again.
Its present location, if it survives, is unknown.
